Architecture and engineering has recently adapted a way to create environmentally friendly structures that suit the present weather. As it is an effective type, more and more people are switching to this housing trend.

An eco friendly house required the employment of modern technologies such as solar panels to achieve its aim for cutting back on greenhouse gas production.

In every build, the engineer tries to achieve a certain balance connecting the internal and external environment. This means that residents from countries with lush, sweltering weather requires cooling systems other than air conditioning which contributes to the cause that eco friendly engineering is standing against for.

Professionals behind eco friendly designs know how to work out the air current and sun luminescence from outside to be useful inside for purposes of proper ventilation and lighting.

This flourishing field of designing houses would have not been possible without the advocacy of Laurie Baker who said that people should “study and know local materials” to create cheap yet efficient buildings without wasting or immediately depleting natural resources. In addition to this, he advised people to stay away from such acts saying “don’t rob national resources”.

Baker humorously put the process of creating house plans as taking their “conscience out of a deep freeze”. However, he gives main priority in the move to “study and know energy” that will be used for houses to eliminate carbon foot printing. Through his teachings, this was modified by the materials that were used for architecture.

The possibilities of creating residential houses are greater now more than ever as architects even study and specialize in this field. Even equatorial countries have such professionals to turn to.

To avoid any tall expenses, every house construction should aim to optimize land area that will also be able to use the natural elements for cooling and lighting creating the perfect abode.

Solar Energy: General Advice

It is the year 2010 and we all are somewhat aware of the merits this natural and cheapest form of energy known as the Solar Energy brings. Decades back most of us did not know as much about solar energy as we do now. We are educated enough to know that the sources of energy on Earth, most of which come from fossil fuels, are in the process of depletion. Research has suggested that the only way to maintain survival is by making optimal use of energy emitted from the sun. Solar energy or solar power as we call it is the cleanest and efficient form of energy.

Solar power is extracted from the Sun and once there is plenty of it, it can be transmuted to other types and forms of energy such as thermal or electrical energies. It is presumed that solar power is one of the most authentic and dependable form of energy which can supersede other sources of energy. It is because of this feature that solar energy is considered as power generator for the future.

The existing sources of energy are not only causing environmental and health problems such as pollution and global warming but are also unable to meet the growing demand of energy. The increase in demand is due to increase in population, which connotes that more power is required on domestic and commercial level.

Most of us wonder as to how solar power works. Well, the mechanism is simple; light coming from Sun is captured by photovoltaic cells which transform it into useful form of energy. Photovoltaic or solar cells are made of silicon, which is a popular semi-conductor. Strategically, these cells when connected in an organized pattern result in a solar panel. Silicon cells serve the function of absorbing sunlight as it is emitted.

When solar panels succeed in capturing ample amount of sunlight, the electrons of silicon are set free to move towards the other side of the panel in search of positive charges. It is in this phase of electron movement that electric current is produced. The panel is connected to a battery in which this current/voltage is kept for storage purpose. The battery can be then connected to the electrical appliance you want to operate.

Solar energy is a never-ending form of energy because it is produced from sunlight which will always be available in profusion.

Understanding Solar Energy

Solar Energy is light and heat harnessed from the sun using constantly evolving technologies. Solar energy is one of the most abundant renewable resources here on earth, yet it is one of the least used of those resources available to us. Pretty cool right?

Some solar applications may include, heating and cooling through solar architecture, portable water via distillation and disinfection, solar cooking, daylighting, solar hot water, and high temperature heat for industrial processes. Yet the most common way of harvesting this energy source is through solar panels.
Interestingly enough, the sun is capable of transmitting more energy to the earths surface in one hour, than this planet uses in one year. Solar energy is harnessed at different levels around the world, depending mainly on location to the equator.

Now, solar energy is primarily the use of solar radiation or direct sun light. All renewable energies other than geothermal and tidal receive their energy from the sun. How is the sun converted into something like electricity? Primarily using photovoltaic (PV). These are the same as the little solar strips you see on your calculator. It is mainly used to power smaller applications. It is definitely not something you could power your whole home with. But the beauty of it is that PV’s are one of the easiest and convenient methods to use for capturing solar energy and converting it into an electrical current.

In order for solar panels to work properly they must, be electrically connected to one another and the entire system, be protected from any potential exterior damage whether it be weather or the installation process, and one of the most important is water protection. If solar panels are not protected from water than the metal will then corrode, decreasing the performance and life time of the panel or system.

Solar panels are a packaged interconnected assembly of solar cells, or photovoltaic cells used to capture powerful rays. One solar panel can be used for smaller applications, or multiple panels can be used as components of a larger photovoltaic system to supply energy to things like residential areas. Because a single solar panel only produces a limited amount of power, they are usually installed in a group known as a photovoltaic array. A photovoltaic array would include the panels, batteries, an inverter, and interconnected wiring.

The hottest topic today is green energy. Everybody talking about it. We’re told about how important it is for our future, and that’s kind of vague. What does this really mean for us anyways?

We need tons of infrastructure that just doesn’t exist right now to do this though, except for Japan. They have a nice electric grid and have added hydrogen fueling stations to their regular gas stations.

You can help all by yourself though, even if you’re not a powerful country with billions of dollars. And helping doesn’t just benefit the environment, it can help save you money too! Probably the best way that I’ve seen is to install your own electricity generator. Sounds, crazy huh? Well it kind of is, but luckily it’s very easy. If you install your own generator, you will be able to get your own power supply off of the grid and save tons of money over the long term. You can even make some money yourself by reselling it back to the power company. How cool is that?
