The Truth Behind Solar Power As An Alternative Energy Source to Get Solar Power Benefits

Huge improvements in the quality of life have been delivered by the Industrial Revolution, but with these have come problems. Pollution and frightening depletion of natural resources like coal and oil have become very serious issues, defining government policies and generating new industries like those associated with solar power.

The sustainable development industry is born of the problem of resources depletion. It is apparent to all that human beings cannot continue to pump oil or mine coal forever at the present rate. Collecting some of the Sun’s energy before it goes through the time consuming process of first being turned into coal before it is used to heat water seems to be a good idea. Allowing people to enjoy the solar power benefits of the sun is a victory for the sustainable development industry.

The Sun through nuclear fusion, produces and pours down upon the Earth, about 386 billion megawatts of power. Solar cells, interconnected into panels can collect tiny amounts of this energy, sufficient to provide electricity for some domestic chores like heating water. When considering the billions of households all over the globe which might generate these small amounts of electricity, the scale of the project seems apparent.

Solar, or photovoltaic, cells catch small amounts of the Sun’s energy. They are arranged in panels which connect the cells. Although the capacity of any panel will depend on its position and exposure to sunlight in various strengths, it can be expected to enough electricity for one house per day. This must be stored in batteries when the sun does not shine, at night or on cloudy days. Although installation costs are high the investment does produce free clean energy from day one.

Because the expense of coal and oil generated electricity are rising to prohibitive levels, alternative sources are being sought urgently. Nuclear power plants are being built, and individuals the world over over are being offered various government inducements to install energy saving measures.

The amount of energy produced will depend on the position of the roof and the amount of sun it gets. Usually it is not enough to supply all household’s needs, but it can heat the water, especially if hot water is used sparingly. Anyone who has measured the amount of electricity used without thought to keep the water hot will understand how great their solar power benefits will be.

This one development within the sustainable development industry is interesting because it seems to prove a prediction made half a century ago, that the world would become a global village. Communally people are turning back to using the Sun’s clean and renewable energy, and co-operating to reduce pollution.

Get complete details on how you can get solar power benefits to not only save you money but also reduce your carbon footprint! You can get all the information you need at www.home-solar-power-guide.com today.

Solar Energy: Heating Your Home and Efficient Appliances

Remodeling your home to use the sun as a natural heating source is fairly easy to do. Although you can’t change the direction that your home is built in to face the morning sun you can still trap the sunlight that shines through and reduce the amount of time that you use another source of heat. You may want to consider building a sun room onto the side that catches the morning sun allowing it to heat up naturally and then install ceiling fans that will circulate the air into the parts of the house. During the day this may provide enough heat to maintain the warmth in your home. When remodeling your home, it will help to install solar power windows that are specially designed to attract the sunlight and allow it to come into the house but not let it escape. This is a natural way to heat your home.

There are several different ways to heat your water using solar power. You can even make your own solar power source. The water runs through pipes before it enters your home. Heating water using solar power will occur before the water gets into your home as it passes by the solar source that attracted the light. You may also have a tank to store the water in that can heat the water up. In order to heat your water successfully you will need to have both a solar collector and a storage tank.

Heating water using solar power is very affordable and can be installed with minimal effort. Choosing to heat your water using solar power is a wise choice and a first step in making a choice to help preserve our environment. We know how easy it is to use solar power to do a lot of things, including heating our water.

Solar power efficient appliances

Solar power is the latest in saving the planet and conserving our energy. Solar power is energy produced from the sun and has great results when you use both energy and conservation. With solar power becoming more popular there is also the need for solar power products. People are now building solar power houses to live in more efficiently. They also want appliances, lighting, heating, water pumps and water heaters to be solar power efficient as well. That is why we now have a way of purchasing solar power appliances to use in the kitchen. Appliances are usually the most costly appliance in a home as they usually run almost continuously and get used often.

Appliances that are Efficient: Not all appliances can be solar powered and for that reason appliances that are efficient are the next best thing. They conserve the energy that it takes to run that appliance and provide you with the service that you expect out of that appliance. Chest freezers, dishwashers, stoves, microwaves, washers and dryers are all appliances that can be purchased with efficiency to save on energy and money. When you use appliances that are efficient they usually cost more up front but in the long run they are worth the effort and can last you a lifetime with proper maintenance.

Overtime when you totally rely on the sun to heat your home and all the other functions it can perform you will not have a monthly bill because you don’t pay for the sun every month like you do with other power sources. Use ceiling fans to reduce the amount of time you may need to run your air conditioner. Ceiling fans can produce a more even amount of heat and air without having hot and cold pockets throughout the home. Use metal insulated doors that will keep out the cold and bring in the heat. Keep the doors closed during the time of day that the sun is shining in on that side of your home in order to save the heat inside your home longer.

Energy: Solar Power and Solar Panels Importance

The sun is a very intense ball of gas up in the atmosphere. It burns twenty four hours a day, seven days per week. We only see it during out daytime but on the other side of the globe they get the daytime when we get the night. When the sun light beams down on the earth’s surface, a small percentage of the solar radiation heading for earth gets reflected. There are larger amounts of the sunlight that is actually absorbed. When you consider the fact that the sunlight must go through fog, clouds, dust particles and harmful pollutants in order to reach us that reduce the amount of sunlight that we receive even more. When it finally makes it to the earth’s surface it is then radiated back up into space. When it reaches the earth, plants and vegetation absorb it and the oceans, winds and other resources absorb the sunlight as well.

Some people use some of the heat generated from the sun in order to heat homes, power electricity and provide water to their families and businesses. When you think about all that you have that runs through a machine it may be possible to reroute that in order to run it all by sunlight. Scientists have only started to make this possible but it is far from being completed. When you consider all the solar energy that reaches the earth’s surface and then radiated back into the atmosphere, you could power electricity, heat and water from now on. This solar energy can be redirected and concentrated using special boxes that attract the light during the day to heat water and homes throughout the night.

Solar energy would not be affected by the supply and demand of fuel for it is free and it doesn’t pollute the atmosphere. It is natural and pure. It would provide us with better health.

Solar power is very important and provides a natural way to heat, obtain electricity and water with just a little more effort. In the future we may have no other choice but to look at natural resources in order to have these necessities and conveniences. Solar power is important now and in the future.

The solar panels

It all starts over one hundred years ago when a man got the idea to use the heat from the sun to power his machinery. The main focus was to use the steam from the hot sun light in order to start and maintain their machines. This new revelation peaked the interest of several scientists who did not waste any time traveling to see how this discovery worked. Since then, there have been groundbreaking products that have increased the convenience and the need to use a natural resource such as the sun in order to work machinery.

Solar panels can be cheaper to use over general electricity in the long run and as long as the sun still rises up in the morning you will generate electricity.

The Future of Energy: Alternative and Green Energy

Today, more people are becoming aware of the need to find alternative sources of energy which includes Green Energy. Green energy is energy that comes from renewable sources that do not pollute the environment. Fossil fuels such as oil and coal have had a significant impact on global warning and the price increases of fossil fuels have caused a serious financial strain on society. There are now many governments and companies making substantial investments in research to find green and alternative energy solutions. There have been a number of developments that are showing that the potential to create a green and alternative energy future is indeed possible.

Below are a number of alternative energy solutions that have been developed:

Solar Energy: In recent years, harnessing the power of the sun to produce energy has seen significant developments. For instance, homes and offices now have the ability to use solar power to produce heat. Solar panels are installed which capture the sun’s radiant and converts it to electricity. It can be done without creating noise and producing greenhouse gases and other pollutants. The solar panels do not require a moving mechanism and the panels capture the rays to covert electricity to power the generator.

Wind Energy: Wind power is another alternative energy that has shown to be a viable green energy source. This green energy is produced by wind turbines. When there is sufficient wind, a propeller will turn which powers a generator to produce electricity. The larger the propeller and the more wind towers that are used, the more electricity will be generated.

Water Energy: Hydroelectric Power is energy that is produced from the power of fast free-flowing water. As another renewable energy source, it is environmentally-friendly and is now being used in many areas around the world. Hydroelectric power works when fast flowing water drives turbines that generate the power. The turning of the turbine spins electromagnets which produces an electrical current. The electrical current travels through a transformer which amplifies the voltage so that it can travel through power lines. Hydroelectric power produces less greenhouse gas and other pollutants than coal, oil, and gas generated power. The amount of power produced depends on the force of the flow of water and the height from which the water flows downward.

Geothermal Energy: As another alternative energy source, geothermal energy is generated from capturing the heat from deep within the ground. A hole is drilled into the earth to locate and capture the heat. The heat is then used to heat water and create steam to power generators which will produce electricity.

Biomass Energy: Biomass energy is energy created from plant life and trees. Plant life such as corn or sugar cane is converted to ethanol and then used by vehicles such as adding it to gasoline to generate energy.

Alternative energy and green energy sources appear to be the future of energy. Although there is long way to go to get rid of our dependence on fossil fuels, there is remarkable potential for these alterative energy sources which will help provide a greener planet for all those that inhabit it.

Science Experiments In The Home

Children are natural scientists. They are curious, and love to discover how things work. As a high school science teacher, it concerns me when I hear a child say that they don’t like science or they find it boring.

There are many small, quick and no or low cost experiments you can do with your child in order to encourage their curiosity. These little experiments help to reveal how things around us work. There are experiments that range from turning a lemon into a battery to using colored cardboard to understand the nature of white light. On the whole these experiments can be carried out with just a few household items that you probably already have in the kitchen or shed.

First take the magic pen experiment. All you need for this is a plastic pen and a tap producing a slow running stream of water. If you hold the pen near the water, nothing happens. Then rub the pen vigorously against a cloth and place it next to the water stream again. You’ll see that the water bends towards the pen which makes the pen look like a magic wand. This experiment uses the buildup of static charge to attract other objects. This is also seen when you rub a balloon against your jumper, then put it near a friend’s hair making the hair stand on end. Static charge is also responsible for you getting zapped while trying to open the car door on a dry, hot day.

Another cheap simple experiment is making the rainbow with the garden hose in the back yard. It is surprising how many children have not seen this. Spray the water mist into the air and depending on where you stand, you will see a rainbow in the water vapor. You’ll also notice that the rainbow can only be seen from a certain position relative to the sun.

It is not possible to see these things and remain uninterested. The key to making kids interested in science is to give them experiments they can do themselves. Then THEY have done it, they made it happen. Watching the same thing on You Tube or TV in no way compares to doing it with your hands.

Children these days are surrounded by computer screens which serve up entertainment to them without them having to have any real input. The simple home based experiments are the opposite of this. Genuine interest is created in the child’s mind through making something unexpected happen. Children learn by doing, so the best way to get them to learn science and love it is by doing it with their own hands.

For many free and easy to perform experiments, look at the Solar Energy Education section of Roger Vanderlely’s website, www.green-planet-solar-energy.com. On the site you can also read about what to look for in cheap solar panels so you get the best deal.

Top 3 Valuable Effects Of Environmental Panels

Solar energy is justifiably the emerging key for an agreeable and healthy energy creation for the humanity. As NASA verified, once all the solar energy created by the sun even for just 60 minutes could be consumed for energy, it would be capable of giving the energy requirements of mother earth for a whole year. Here are 3 grounds why solar energy is favored than the modern way of producing energy–fossil fuels.

First Effect: Air Pollution Issues and Solar Power Solar power generates no air contamination. Mainly since solar power does not use corrosion, or burning of fuel. The solar energy released by the sun has been combusted by the sun for almost 100 million miles off, where the consequence cannot impair us.

Lowering air pollution is extremely important. Presently, just about 200 million men inhabit in regions with enormous air pollution. And this air toxic could result to acid precipitation and fog, two reasons that are raising the events of asthma and different respiratory illnesses in the United States.

Second Effect: Solar Power and the Global Warming Solar energy results to nearly no negative output on global warming rather than utilizing coal and some fossil fuels. Not like coal energy, utilizing solar creates no greenhouse gases. While fossil fuels, on the opposite, created mercury, carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide, and nitrogen oxide. All of these directly go to the atmosphere and combined to generate the greenhouse effect.

This figure is playing a vital share of the environmental payback of solar power. And global warming is developing some of the disasters we are having today. The level of tropical calamities and the typhoons, example, is greater in number for over 20 years. And this is chiefly due to the humid weather that we are having because of global warming.

#3 Effect: Solar Power and the Other Pollution This solar power generates no sound interference and no bad odor. Again, this is in contrast to the fossil fuel plants, which make some sound interference and release odor that needed to be placed far from residential areas. Solar panel, however work in a quiet manner and without odor, for they have no running parts and furnish fuel that has been already combusted.

Actually, solar energy systems could be placed on a roof with definitely no harm in the lives of people. This is like having an energy plant at the top of your house that is soundless, inodorous, and environmentally harmless.

Is Biofuel A Viable Oil Substitute?

The inevitable decline in oil production has already forced us to look for alternative fuel sources. Biofuel has been touted as a substitute, but we need to consider the impacts of this approach. Biofuel proponents suggest that by making fuel from plants we will be able to maintain our current fuel-dependent lifestyle.

How realistic is this scenario? We need to consider the costs associated with alternative energy sources. The biofuel concept is that sugars from plants are fermented into alcohols such as ethanol which can be burnt for energy. The sugars that plants produce fall into two broad categories and the treatment of these two types directly affects their profitability.

Simple sugars are the first group. These have up to three individual sugar molecules joined together. When we eat plant material, it is these sugars that we readily digest to give us energy. These are the same sugars that we use to sweeten a cup of coffee or tea. Such sugars are found in the fruiting parts of plants such as apples and corn cobs. Making ethanol from these parts of plants is cost effective and quick, as the sugar is easily converted to alcohol by organisms such as yeast.

The other sort of sugars in plants is those used to make the plant body. This tough fibrous material is called cellulose. Cellulose is made of the same sugar units as found in the fruiting parts, but they are strongly bonded together and these bonds are tough to break. We are unable to digest these sugars and they are known to most of us as dietary fiber. They can be broken up though, using an enzyme called cellulase. It is possible to produce cellulase commercially but it’s an expensive process and cellulase will not give 100% conversion of plant matter into simple sugars. The advantage of it is that any plant matter, whether that’s wood, paper or cardboard, can be converted into simple sugars and then into fuel. It is not necessary to use food crops to produce the fuel.

Presently almost all biofuel production is carried out using the simple sugars from corn cobs or similarly sugar rich plants such as sugar cane. Clearly, by using these crops to make fuel we are reducing the availability of food. With global demand for food rising and prices rising with it, it seems irresponsible to be using what little agricultural land we have to be making oil substitute fuels.

Biofuels may represent a partial solution to our energy needs, but they cannot be produced at the expense of food. Research into improving methods of breaking down cellulose needs to be done. If this can be done efficiently, bioethanol could mean a genuine step toward a clean energy world.

Find more information about this topic in the What Is Biofuel section of www.green-planet-solar-energy.com. You may also be interested to read about the production and properties of fossil fuels and issues associated with that industry.

Can Nuclear Energy Replace Fossil Fuels For Electricity Production?

Nuclear energy is held up as the obvious successor to fossil fuels as a solution for producing base load mainstream electricity. But is nuclear a viable long term solution or just another quick fix?

There’s no doubt that fossil fuels have lots of problems associated with their long term large scale use. One problem is that of Peak Oil production, where we may have already passed maximum capacity production, yet demand is still rising. More serious than this is the very real possibility of significant and virtually irreversible climate change brought about at least in part by our continuous addition of Carbon Dioxide and other pollutants to the atmosphere through burning fossil fuels.

How does Nuclear energy compare to fossil fuels for long term production of mainstream energy? There are concerns about Nuclear power, some real and some imagined. If we think “nuclear disaster” most people will be able to recall the names of Three Mile Island and Chernobyl where reactor malfunctions caused lots of suffering. The reality though is that problems such as these, while potent, are extremely rare particularly when compared to the amount of electricity produced by those same reactors. The number of casualties in the coal and oil production sectors is far greater per year for the same amount of electricity production.

Storage of Nuclear waste is also largely an issue of the past with technology now available to store Nuclear waste in solid form, reducing virtually to zero the possibility of leakage, ground water contamination and so forth.

Weapons grade Plutonium-239 is another unpleasant byproduct of Nuclear energy. Enrichment of the fuel source is necessary to make it economically viable and this is where the Plutonium is produced. The use of nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the Second World War has forever given nuclear weapons a bad name. It is worth considering though that production of these weapons is a political issue and just because they can be made does not mean we should ignore the possible benefits of Nuclear energy technology.

The reality for us though is that nuclear power relies upon supplies of Uranium and Plutonium that are themselves limited. While these resources may have only begun to be exploited, it is certain that if our current level of increase of energy consumption continues then Nuclear fuel will also face the prospect of its own peak production level.

It cannot be a responsible decision to replace fossil fuels with another energy source that is also doomed to run out in the foreseeable future. While those proponents of Nuclear power proclaim it as the salvation of our current situation they are not looking far enough into the future.

We need to be considering future generations when we make decisions regarding energy security. Do we want to hand our children a world swimming in fossil fuel pollution and nuclear waste, or a world that has a clean, secure power supply that has very limited environmental impacts? For solar and wind energy are proven technologies that can be implemented today to make that a reality.

Governments around the world need to start making intelligent decisions that benefit both us and the generations to come. A secure, clean energy source is obviously the way forward so large scale renewable energy production must be implemented immediately.
