Wind energy is the green resource that can be used to obtain electricity. Those who are in very windy areas can easily set up a wind generator to produce electricity and make use of it at home or at work. Windmills are produced to generate electricity for household purposes, industries and farms. Today the technology has grown so much that we can use wind generators to convert the wind energy into electric power. The excess electricity that is produced is stored in the battery for use later on when the wind isn’t blowing so much.
We can make our own wind turbines, which reduces the installation cost and as well as the power bills. Also, These plans are available to create your own wind generator with materials found online or at the hardware store. They include:
1. Turbine Hub
2. Rotor Blades
3. DC motor
4. AC Power Inverter for Household use
5. 8, 12, or 24 Volt Batteries
6. Wires
Initially we need to plan how to set up the entire generator with the tools. These tools are available in the hardware store. This plan must include the sequence of steps that has to be carried out to make our own wind power generator.
We start the plan with how to build a wind generator. You have to cut the blade in equal shapes and size and place in the hub with equal space. You need to fix the motor where the wind power is converted into electrical energy. Once your wind generator is built you will need a set of batteries and a mechanism to control the battery charging process for your new system.
The next step is to build the wind towers. Simple pole towers can be easily constructed. They can be fixed firmly on the ground to withstand strong winds. The pole has to be fifteen feet high or more. When it comes to wind energy, the higher the better!
Since batteries are the heart of any renewable energy system, it is better to use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable ones. Using rechargeable batteries really saves lot of money instead of getting a new one each and every time.
Then an inverter is required to convert the DC current into more volatile AC current that can be effective used for house hold appliances.
A charge controller can also be used to prevent the batteries from over-charging with high wind speeds and thus saves the batteries from being destroyed.
Finally, connect everything together with the wires and you are all set! Click the link below for some great plans on creating your own wind turbine.
